Stoic Mindfulness & Resilience Training

Resilience means being able to adapt to life's misfortunes and setbacks. Test your resilience level and get tips to build your own resilience. When you have resilience, you harness inner strength that helps you rebound from a setback or challenge, such as a job loss, an illness, a disaster or a loved one's death. If you lack resilience, you might dwell on problems, feel victimized, become overwhelmed or turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms, such as substance abuse. Resilience won't make your problems go away — but resilience can give you the ability to see past them, find enjoyment in life and better handle stress. If you aren't as resilient as you'd like to be, you can develop skills to become more resilient.

SMRT normally runs once per year. The date, if scheduled will be on the course page. If you want to receive information on forthcoming SMRT enrollment please create an account on the elearning site , turn on email notifications, and follow StoicWeek on Twitter. SMRT is a four-week intensive training course in core Stoic psychological skills. It requires about twenty minutes of commitment daily for 28 days.

Over the past twenty years or so, I've been asked many times for a convenient summary of Stoic psychological practices, which the Stoics called their "therapy" therapeia of the passions. Through the Modern Stoicism non-profit initiative we've designed protocols for Stoic Week and Stoic Mindfulness and Resilience Training SMRT , which have been tested with over ten thousand participants around the world and refined each year based on their feedback. We've gathered a large amount of statistical data supporting the benefits of Stoic practices like these on established measures of mood and life satisfaction, especially when forming a regular daily routine. It's intended as a concise summary, an aide memoire or "cheat sheet", if you like. So if you're completely new to Stoicism you'll still find it helpful but, of course, you should expect to read some books on the subject as well to learn more.

Virtue alone is happiness. Virtue is its own sufficient reward, and vice its own punish-ment. Good must be found by every man within himself. All outward things that are commonly regarded as good or bad, such as wealth and poverty, pleasure and pain, health and sickness, are matters of indiffer-ences to the true Stoic. This new guide to finding a happier way of life draws on the ancient wisdom of the stoics to reveal lasting truths and proven strategies for enhanced well-being.
