In many former studies, cable mass have been ignored against end-effector mass. In other words, the cables have been modeled as straight massless body. This assumption is valid for robots of small size carrying light payloads, but for such large scale robots, cannot be applicable anymore. In the latter case, the mass of long cables can lead to sagging effect. In summary, the sagging effect of cables can result in following problems: 1 increasing complexity of both kinematic and dynamic analysis 2 decreasing robot stiffness 3 reducing natural frequencies and undesirable vibrations. The goal of this project is to develop a theoretical framework for robust position control of CDPMs.
