Unit 3: Compass survey.

Civil Engineering (CE) : Surveying (Part - 5) Civil Engineering (CE) Notes | EduRev

Presentation on theme: "Unit 3: Compass survey."— Presentation transcript:

Taking a forward bearing. The first compass bearing we need to take at the lake is from our unknown location to our cabin on the far shore. The bearing we end up with represents the angle between a line from Magnetic North to our location, and a line from our location to the cabin.

Report Download. This direction is known as magnetic meridian. GRID MERIDIAN Sometimes for preparing a map some state agencies assume several lines parallel to the true meridian for particular zone, these lines are known as grid lines , and the central line is called grid meridian. The magnetic bearing of the line measured clockwise OR anticlockwise from the north pole or south pole towards the east or west,is known as quadrantel bearing. The magnetic bearing of the line measured clockwise from the north pole or south pole towards the east or west,is known as REDUCED bearing.

A large area to be surveyed 2. The course of river or coast line is to be surveyed 3. The area is crowded with many details or triangulations is not possible. Than is required. Equipmen for compass survey 1. When a close traverse is plotted.

The starting and finishing points may not be coincide. The distance by whice the traverse fails to close is said to the error. Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book.

Surveying Part 5. The meridians of reference directions employed in surveying may one of the following. True meridian 2. Magnetic meridian 3. Grid meridian 4.

Compass traversing: Fore bearings and back bearings between the traverse leg are measured Theodolite traversing: Horizontal angles between the traverse.

Item required. Calculating the direction of a line by using bearings is also a longstanding tradition. Acute angle that is measured between the reference meridian and the given line is known as Bearing. Objectives of Traversing in Surveying. In certain situations, a convenient direction is established with respect to a permanent or a common mark or a signal in the area, during the survey.

Local attraction is the phenomenon by which the magnetic needle is constantly prevented to point towards the magnetic north at a place. This is because that these magnetic compass is influenced by other magnetic objects at that locality such as wires carrying electric current, rails, steel and iron structures, steel tapes etc. The occurrence of local attraction can be detected by observing the difference between the fore and back bearings. If there is no influence of local attraction and other error, this difference will be So we can then conclude that both stations are free from local attraction. Due to local attraction significant amount of error can be occur in compass surveying observations and they will be same on all the bearings.

Fore Bearing and Back Bearing • The bearing of a line measured in the forward direction of survey line is called the 'Fore Bearing' (FB) of that.

Compass surveying is a branch of surveying in which directions of survey lines are determined with a compass and lengths of the lines are measured with a tape or a chain.
